About the foundation

The Durham Medical Orchestra Foundation was incorporated in the state of North Carolina in 2016 as a non-profit public corporation with a charitable and educational purpose. The mission of the Foundation is to promote music as a healing art and to support musical activities for and by health professionals, their family members, and affiliated persons in Durham, North Carolina and in nearby communities. The Foundation has selected the Durham Medical Orchestra (DMO), as a group that is closely aligned with its mission and values. Accordingly, the Foundation works closely with DMO leadership to raise funds, provide grants to, and/or make purchases that benefit the DMO. The Foundation also provides financial services for the DMO, including processing of donations.

All contributions designated for the Durham Medical Orchestra (DMO) are submitted to the Foundation, which will deposit the funds and provide the donor with a receipt.  These contributions will be used to support the activities of the DMO through either direct purchases or grants. One hundred percent of funds granted by the Foundation to the DMO must be used to support DMO activities. The Foundation does not pay “indirect costs” or “facility and administration fees” and such costs or fees may NOT be charged to the DMO based on the grant funds awarded.

The Foundation welcomes your financial contributions in support of the Durham Medical Orchestra (donation form in PDF format). The Foundation has been classified as a public charity that is exempt from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501 (c)(3). The Internal Revenue Service has determined that donors can deduct contributions to the Foundation under IRC Section 170. The Foundation may also receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts under IRC Sections 2055, 2106, or 2522. Please consult with your tax advisor for specific questions regarding the tax deductibility of your contribution.
