A Concerted Effort: To Bridge the Gap Between the Arts and Medicine

November 8, 2014 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Free

concerted_effortA growing body of research demonstrates that involvement in the arts positively impacts emotions and attitudes, and contributes to individual health and wellness. Likewise, the arts have the power to bridge differences – to connect individuals of widely differing backgrounds through a shared experience of art, music, literature, and dance – and bring healing to communities as well as to individuals.

This symposium, sponsored by the Duke Medicine Orchestra and the Durham Arts Council, will feature a keynote address by noted musician and arts educator Lisa Wong, M.D. (Longwood Symphony Orchestra), followed by a panel discussion with local arts and health professionals, and accompanied by performances from several local musical groups.

We invite performers, artists, educators and leaders to attend this symposium, and to share their own work and experiences through exhibits and conversation prior to the general meeting.
