Dear friends of the DMO,

Would you like to raise awareness of dementia, honor a caregiver, or remember a family member?

The Durham Medical Orchestra would like to invite your participation in a commission to create an orchestral version of a composition by world-renowned composer John Mackey, entitled “Places we can no longer go.” The work was inspired by the composer’s experience accompanying his mother, a musician, on her journey through Alzheimer’s disease. It is a dramatic, moving, and uplifting piece, approximately 20 minutes long. We have chosen this project to mark our growth and commitment to music in the service of health and wellness. We plan to premiere the orchestral version at our concert on May 3, 2020, and dedicate the performance to caregivers, family members, and friends of dementia patients.

This is a major project for us, and while we intend to bear the major portion of the total cost, we are seeking your support. As a funding partner, you and the person you’re honoring will be acknowledged in the published score, and you are entitled to performance rights to the work for the first year following the Durham Medical Orchestra’s premiere in May.

We kindly ask orchestras and others interested in partnering with us on this project to contact us by signing up on the form below. Commission partners are asked to contribute a minimum of $500. Payment instructions will be sent out directly.

If you have questions please don’t hesitate to reach out via email or call (919) 660-3306.

With best wishes,
